HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

1. Statement of Intent

Fixiz Ltd is committed to ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, contractors, clients, and members of the public who may be affected by our operations.

We recognise our duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations and will:

  • Provide safe systems of work and a safe working environment
  • Identify hazards and reduce risks through effective risk management
  • Ensure safe use, handling, storage, and transport of equipment and materials
  • Provide adequate training, instruction, supervision, and information
  • Consult with employees on health and safety matters
  • Prevent accidents, work-related ill health, and dangerous occurrences
  • Continuously improve our health and safety performance

Senior management is fully committed to this policy and will allocate sufficient resources to implement it effectively.

2. Organisation and Responsibilities

2.1 Director Responsibilities (Managing Director)

The Director of Fixiz Ltd holds overall responsibility for health and safety and will:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation
  • Establish and maintain effective health and safety management systems
  • Ensure risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are produced and implemented
  • Provide adequate resources (time, personnel, financial)
  • Appoint competent persons where required
  • Review health and safety performance annually
  • Ensure accident reporting and investigation procedures are followed

2.2 Managers / Supervisors

Managers and supervisors will:

  • Implement this policy on site and in operations
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with RAMS
  • Conduct site inspections and safety checks
  • Stop unsafe work where necessary
  • Ensure operatives are competent and trained
  • Monitor use of PPE and safety equipment
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses

2.3 Employees and Operatives

All employees have a legal duty to:

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and others affected by their work
  • Follow company procedures, RAMS, and instructions
  • Use equipment and PPE correctly
  • Report hazards, defects, and incidents immediately
  • Not misuse or interfere with safety equipment

2.4 Contractors

Fixiz Ltd will:

  • Ensure contractors are competent and adequately insured
  • Provide relevant health and safety information
  • Monitor contractor performance
  • Require contractors to comply with this policy and relevant legislation

3. Arrangements

3.1 Risk Assessments

  • Suitable and sufficient risk assessments will be carried out for all work activities
  • Control measures will follow the hierarchy of control
  • RAMS will be communicated to all operatives before work starts
  • Assessments will be reviewed regularly or when changes occur

3.2 Safe Systems of Work

  • All high-risk activities (e.g., work at height, electrical work, lifting operations) will be planned and controlled
  • Permits to work will be used where necessary
  • Work will be supervised appropriately

3.3 Training and Competence

  • All employees will receive appropriate training, including induction training, task-specific training, and toolbox talks
  • Records of training will be maintained
  • Only competent persons will undertake specialist work

3.4 Work Equipment (PUWER)

  • All equipment will be suitable for its intended use, maintained in safe condition, and inspected regularly
  • Users will be trained and authorised

3.5 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • PPE will be provided where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means
  • PPE will be suitable, maintained, and worn as required
  • Typical PPE may include: helmets, gloves, eye protection, hi-vis, safety footwear

3.6 Work at Height

  • Work at height will be avoided where possible
  • Where unavoidable: proper access equipment (e.g., scaffold, MEWP) will be used; ladders used only for short-duration, low-risk work; edge protection and fall prevention systems implemented

3.7 Electrical Safety

  • All electrical systems will comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Equipment will be tested (PAT where applicable)
  • Only competent persons will carry out electrical work
  • Live working will be avoided unless absolutely necessary

3.8 Hazardous Substances (COSHH)

  • COSHH assessments will be carried out
  • Exposure will be prevented or controlled
  • Suitable storage and handling arrangements will be implemented
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) will be available

3.9 Fire Safety

  • Fire risk assessments will be undertaken
  • Adequate fire detection and extinguishing equipment provided
  • Clear emergency procedures and evacuation routes maintained
  • Staff will receive fire safety training

3.10 Accident Reporting (RIDDOR)

  • All accidents, incidents, and near misses will be recorded
  • Reportable incidents will be notified in accordance with RIDDOR 2013
  • Investigations will identify root causes and prevent recurrence

3.11 Welfare Facilities

  • Suitable welfare facilities will be provided in accordance with regulations, including toilets, washing facilities, drinking water, and rest areas

3.12 Monitoring and Review

  • Regular inspections and audits will be carried out
  • Performance will be reviewed annually
  • Policy will be updated as required

4. Consultation and Communication

Fixiz Ltd will:

  • Consult employees on health and safety matters
  • Provide clear communication of risks and controls
  • Encourage reporting of hazards and suggestions

5. Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency arrangements will be established for all sites
  • First aid provision will be available
  • Emergency contacts will be displayed
  • Staff will be trained in emergency procedures

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if:

  • There are significant changes in operations
  • New legislation is introduced
  • Following an incident or enforcement action

NOTE: This policy should be read in conjunction with project-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and communicated to all staff and contractors.
